Why is everyone treating yoyoing like a religion?

Everyone is out to "spread the joy of yoyoing", or at least all the "good" yoyoers who aren't selfish and conceited are doing it, right?

Come on, is a yoyo going to make the average kid that happy? Maybe for 5 minutes, before he gets bored of it.

... but really, if you want to make a kid happy, give him a Game Boy or start developing the next big hit video game.

Why are we shoving yoyos down kids throats? It's like shoving religion down someone’s throat. They just don't care for it, but we insist it's the best!

Don't get me wrong. I do support the yoyo community.

I treat yoyoing like my religious beliefs. I support those who believe what I believe, and I love seeing people come to believe what I believe. But it’s just plain ridiculous telling them it’s the best thing ever when they don’t understand it with my perspective. It is not my job to persuade someone to see yo-yoing in the light we do, as the best and most fun past time in existence. I will keep on yo-yoing, and if they see me yo-yoing and are curious or want to try, I support that and will try my best to support them in it, but is not my job to convert them. They will join the community or leave on there own will. The point were they take curiosity or want to try, is them stepping in.

So my question is; why is it so important to get everyone into yo-yoing?

Why not just support what we have, and let it grow as people join. If we poured out all our resources on bringing people in, I think the community would fail miserably because there will be nothing to the community accept the process of trying to bring people to the community. If we instead support what we already have and grow it, people will see it from the outside and see how cool this little niche is and join themselves. It’d be better all around. We don’t waste our time. We don’t waste there time.

Also, don’t get me wrong about showing the love of yo-yoing to others. A lot of people do enjoy watching without ever being interested in starting. And there are plenty ways of giving the gift of yoyoing without ever expecting kids to join your “group”, or focusing it on persuading them in.

... so ya, why is it so necessary to “spread yo-yoing” to be a “good yoyoer”?

I think you're looking at it incorrectly, focusing mainly on your last sentence. There are particular members of the yo-yoing community who have achieved all that they need to achieve. There is nothing more that they could possibly do that would make them any more respected within the community than they already are. So what's next? Exapnding. For every preexisting yo-yoer to know your name is an honor. But for kids to start yo-yoing because you inspired them, that is a completely different league. It's more like the "good yo-yoers" are obligated to start "spreading yo-yoing," because its the one thing they have yet to accomplish. There are only so many yo-yo contests you can win. There are an (almost) infinite amount of kids that can be inspired.

Damn, I sound like a motivational speaker. I have failed.
