I feel like i can relate to the techy 5A stuff, but than again it is a lot like your mom. Fun to look at but I will not touch.

  4. i like watching samm scott do his tech stuff in person or in a short video. after about 10 minutes, i would max out and have to run away.
i would never... ever... even a little bit find that style of play rewarding. luckily there's still plenty of big smooth 5a to balance it.

i dunno about a bowl of dicks... maybe if they were tiger dicks... which to some are a delicacy, but to most just seems bizarre and wrong.

  5. tech 5A started as a trend, but it's gone too far to stop now. i'm think it's here to stay and the majority of all future 5A will be influenced by it.

that's just what i think. it's cool if you don't like it, i can understand how it could look boring.

Some of it is cool, some of it is really boring and repetitive. I don't think the really techy stuff (JonRob's in particular) works very well in a freestyle. It's just too contained in one space to really get the crowd going. Sure, it might hit a lot of points, but it's not the sort of thing I'd put on my iPod.

Hmm Boxxy sorta hit the nail on the head - but only kinda.

Bad tech 5A is everything that's bad about 1A but w/ a counterweight...

Good 5A (tech or otherwise) should be everything that's good about 1A but w/ a counterweight.

  8. not boring, jake, so much as alienating. to me it just comes off as really introspective. that's just not easy for others to participate in. i think you're right that it's come in to it's own and isn't going anywhere.

Mount yoyo on string > proceed with 1a trick > toss counter weight through/around/across opening/area/around/etc > catch cw > proceed with 1a >toss cw > so on and so forth.

    Summary of tech 5a.

  10. Maybe I should get neck-deep into Tech 5A and win Worlds, just so I can turn down the trophy and say "I shouldn't have won, that routine was total crap. You judges suck."

That would be kinda funny. Ish.

a bowl of dicks eating tech 5A is a much cooler mental picture than the other way around.

  13. "bowl of dicks" must be a san jose thing. in sf propper we say, "eat a dick up till you hiccup".

So ive got a new tech 5a trick (that ive conceptualized but havent tried)

I decided im going to do every picture trick i know, and then swing the dice around. And then of course end it with a GT.

Seriously though, i dont hate tech 5a. I prefer other styles of 5a and think often tech 5a becomes sorta pointless.

    Fuck the gay shit.

Its all JD's fault; the last trick in Lion Flo was the first "tech 5A" trick.

    http://www.yoyoing.com/videos/play.php?vid=1904

I also I do not throw "Tech 5A." I play with a yo-yo that has a counterweight attached called Freehand. I'll go trick for trick with any one, Big, Small, Fast, Slow, Tech, Astro, DD, Hubstacks, I dont care.
    Holla at me.

  16. that trick by jd was actually really good haha

actually, as far as "tech 5a" goes, I'm pretty sure it still originated w/ Steve Brown.

Anyone remember, "Your Flight Has Been Canceled" from Glasslab3?
(However, it did sorta come off as a joke trick so...)

i was gonna mention that trick, but i figured one counter weight release isnt enough to classify it as any sort of good 5A. I like tech 5a to a certian extent. Most of jons i like, although there are a few tricks that i fucking hate. Jakes old tech 5A (toss core, ect) was always shitty, but his new stuff is off the chain. But i mostly prefer a mixture of both big 5a and tech 5a, and im sure we all know who that is.

    Miggy STILL wins.

  19. as far as 5a goes miggy and dana are on whole different level than everyone else.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  20. i agree with tyler kinda about good 5A being tech blended as i say traditional.

good 5A is hard to do. i best be stepping my game up then.

  21. randy and dana have the best tech 5A. i don't consider anything i've done since the 5A video battle to be tech really.

My opinion on tech 5A is that its mostly shit. Get your head out of a 1A mentality. Seriously, you have a fucking counterweight tied at the end of your string that allows to have infinitely more freedom than a 1A player and you're telling me all you want to do is sit there and do 1a tricks with cw releases? Get the fuck outta here. Now this doesn't mean that tech 5A doesn't have its place somewhere but it certainly should not be the main attraction.

That being said, I also believe tech 5A is more than likely here to stay. The problem is that too many kids believe there is a direct correlation between the difficulty and quality of a trick. (We've already seen this trend with 1A.)

  23. the messiah is here. i think people do tech 5a cause its easy and other people will think there cool. thats not an all inclusive statement but i think it is true for some.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  24. tech 5A is by far the easiest, so it's not like anyone is doing it because of the difficulty.

anyone can make up a shit tech 5A trick in 30 seconds.

more bull shit....... Easy "tech 5A" is easy, and hard "tech 5A" is hard.

If you think "tech 5A" is so easy you need to step your games up and challenge yourself to make up something harder. Just like miggy said "you have a fucking counterweight tied at the end of your string that allows to have infinitely more freedom than a 1A player"

i like a mix between tech and non tech 5a, its like freestyles.. id like to watch a freestyle with big trick sand tech tricks mixed in together.. for example in 1a i really dig eric koloski's nats freestyle that combined alot of whip stuff but he also had a bunch of tech tricks in there as well. Just my 2 cents, i dont really do much 5a so i cant really say much

I'm keepin away from Tech 5A as much as I can... even if it does screw me over in the end
    KEEP IT REAL
don't hold onto that counterweight unless you are throwing or catching/switching between tricks
thats what you do to keep it real

  28. No one is guna be the next Miggy Numa or Pon. The only newer 5A player i see coming close to the understanding of what can be done with 5A is Tyler.

Go watch the 04 5A freestyles (except for mine). everyone has there own unique style of freehand that really sets them apart. all to often now it seems people do it all the same.

  30. Seth, seriously?

I watched Jakes, JonRobs, Miggys, Sterlings and Tyler's Nats freestyles.

Don't even try telling me that they look the same. They all have very different styles and fortes.
