Sadly, there are anodizing issues with the Train Wreck.
We just uncovered a problem with the Train Wreck. At ECC, two people returned Train Wrecks after they did thumb grinds and some of the anodized finish came off (see the pic above). We were hoping they were fluke occurrences. We reported this to Steve Buffel, who is the guy at SPYY. Steve tested it for a day, and it happened to him. He said the anodized finish was too thin and may come off in time. To reflect that, Mitchell’s and Steve have decided to reduce the price of the Train Wreck from $94.95 to $68, and sell it ‘as-is’ with no warranty. The finish problem should not affect the play, however, it is likely to lose it’s finish with use. Steve’s had other problems with the Train Wreck with many halves scheduled for the the general release being damaged at the anodizer. So, the status of the entire run is up in the air.
There are still some available at our webpage.
Both SPYY and Mitchell’s wanted to address this issue proactively, as we have no interest in passing off flawed merchandise as first quality.

ECC in all it’s glory will be recapped tonight on YoYos Coast to Coast. We’ve got clips from the likes of Spencer Berry (talkin’ Green Triangles), Both Save and Deth, Joe Wilson, John Higby, Mark Hayward, Adam Brewster and Joey Fleshman PLUS, in a encore co-hosting – newly engaged Thom Uleau! We’ll talk about all that went on at ECC, including Friday night Yo-Yo Club at Mitchell’s (when our heroes scared away a carload of teenage girls), Friday night’s mayhem at the Severance household (an alert Mark Allen doused a fire started by Matt Doc), Saturday’s contest itself, Saturday’s after party at JonRobs (where I nearly whupped Seth Peterson’s hairy butt in an impromptu wrestling match), PLUS Thom Uleau’s surprise proposal to his long time girlfriend.
All tonight – 9:30 pm at YoYoRadio.net
Tom “Hollywood” Uleau – you may remember him as MC of contests like “the Mid-Atlantic Regionals,” “Maryland States,” and “Pennsylvania States” or, perhaps, as ne’er-do-well AJ Kirk’s ne’er-do-well roommate or as the newest member of the AYYA Board of Directors. In any case, Tom will be on house to co-host his first (and likely last as he’s moving to Florida) Yo-Yo’s Coast to Coast this Monday at 9:30 pm (East Coast Time) – tune in at YoYoRadio.net
Yes, shockingly enough, YYC2C is not dead yet. Despite a prolonged hiatus (we’re working out an independent agreement to the YYC2C writers), we’re back – just in time for the second East Coast Classic / Delaware State Yo-Yo Contest on Saturday – January 12th. Tune in Monday for what promises to be a fun show. And, entirely Tyler-free! (well, maybe not entirely, but largely Tyler-free anyway)
So, we didn’t do a live show last week. Instead, Steve Brown and I recorded a podcast and put it up, as kinda a Easter Egg for those who’ve subscribed to the podcast feed on Itunes. You didn’t? Shame on you, visit yoyoradio.net and click on the subscribe button.
While there, download last week’s podcast with Steve Brown, where he disses on Shoparooni, the current state of 5A and does an impression of JonRob on the phone with his wife. Also download this week’s show, where I talked to Aidan Orange about his appearance in Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium as a yo-yoer. Nathan Crissey co-hosts and I also spoke to Tyler Severance about his upcoming East Coast Classic Contest.
I just wrote this post over on the YoYoGuy blog (remember that?). Check out this dude who claims he single-handedly created the 1998 yo-yo boom. “I created the yo-yo craze of 1998, taking Yomega Yo-Yos from $8mm to over $110,000,000 in a SINGLE YEAR.” Funny, I’ve never heard of him.
OK, file this under shameless commerce. Benny was kind enough to send us a batch of red 888’s to sell at MAR, and we still have some left. I’m not sure if this is the beginning of a new run, or just a small run of red, but I think we have the only ones released yet. They are large bearing, silicone response 888’s. The only time I’ve seen red was as half of the Cinqo de Mayo 888. Buy one here
Also, FYI, Benny sent us a ‘Cherry’ small-bearing 888 that we gave to the winner of the 1A Division. I haven’t seen this one before – it was red as well, but had a pair of cherries inscribed on the side of the yo-yo. I’m assuming this is for the new YoYoFactory team member from Russia, Igor “Cherry” Vishnyakov.
In what could be the last live episode of YoYos Coast to Coast ever, pending the new rate schedule for royalties, we speak with Ben McPhee about new YoYoFactory stuff – he reveals what the elusive ‘Golden Ticket’ means and where you can get one. Also, he reveals SOME of the letters in the name of the new YoYoFactory yo-yo – it’s the _ _ E E _ _ _ A _ – it will be a plastic and metal yo-yo that’s available at Worlds. He also graciously decided to give away a couple of them to listeners. Later we spoke to YoYoRadio Forum’s Admin – YoYoFargo, who also creates Avid Strings and is starting up YoYoSmiles.org. Finally, we speak with longtime listener Sarah Jones, who’s celebrating her 18th birthday today! Download it, dude.
YoYoFactory is about to release 110 small bearing eight8eights to a limited number of retailers. Ben has not released the information where these will be found yet, but some were available at Pier Kites this past Sunday. These will be released in two color schemes – 75 in contest team colors and 35 in silver. Ben has promised that “there is something cool on this yo-yo.” Check here for details.
Tune in for the latest live edition of YoYos Coast to Coast – tonight, 9:30 pm East Coast Time. It could be one of the last live shows we do, as one of our topics tonight is tomorrow’s Internet Radio “Day of Silence” protesting the recent 300 percent rate hikes for Internet Radio station royalties. Plus, we’ll wrap up MidWest Regionals, hopefully catch up on the drama that is the Ramen Tour 2007, plus do silly crap.
All tonight on YoYos Coast to Coast! at YoYoRadio.net
Yes, it’s hard to believe, isn’t it? It’s finally going to happen, merely a month or so since our last show, YoYos Coast to Coast will actually go on the air tonight! We have topics, we have recorded stuff from PA States – including our first conversation with Yo-Yo legend Shawn Fumo and Matt Cahill, plus conversations with the newest Duncan US Crew member – Drew Tetz, we get the whole sordid story from James Keenan on his horrible fire that burned down his family’s house, plus we talk to Ky Zizan, Jake Bullock, Mikhail Tulabut, Samm Scott and Tim Redmond! All tonight on YoYos Coast to Coast – LIVE at 9:30 (East Coast Time) at YoYoRadio.net
