SPYY x Eric Wolff

Wood is Good…

For the past 8 years I’ve been constantly inspired by Eric Wolff’s creations with wood, metal and plastic…

Now Eric has lent his experience to the very competent Steve of SPYY to bring us an awesome piece of work.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Steve on Tyler Severance’s TrainWreck, and can vouch for the attention to detail steve puts into his designs. Something I think is lacking with a lot of the independent yo-yo manufacturers today. But maybe that’s just me?

Wood is good because its retro, its a throw back to the “old” days. Gives you a reminder how far things have come and its always fun to throw for a while.
If that is going to be a metal yo with wood rims, well, im not too sure how well thats going to work. I love what SPYY stands for as a company - no hype, undeniably accurate, and willing to try something a bit different. However i hope they dont fall into a trend of producing novel yos.
I thought the radian superlight was a neat idea, and turned out really well. If not a little bit quirky - it still played really well and was a good yoyo. I’m not so sure that you can justify putting wood rims on a yo from a players point of view.
Wow, that looks incredible. Something I know Steve and Eric will do great with. This is something I cannot wait to see, and I’d love to try one.
Well… I didn’t make the deadline for Worlds due to some unexpected variables I encountered when dealing with wood. I had the chance to meet with Eric and attend his workshops at the contest. He is a true master and a wealth of knowledge! After many conversations and watching Eric mod a Velocity to accept two of the rims, I have a better grip on how to improve the dimensional accuracy of the finished product. Hopefully, they’ll turn out and be available to the public soon.
can’t wait to see what happens.
