Yo-Yo Jam’s hitting the metal market
Feb 19th, 2008 by $eth
Yo-Yo Jam Axiom.

Best YYJ caps/artwork since the Matrixx;)

A lot of the features on this yo-yo are reminiscent of another very popular yo-yo right now. Ben Mcphee of Yo-Yo Factory may have eluded to this in an October 18th post titled “Immagination…”. At least Yo-Yo Jam is taking steps to keep current with yo-yo market trends. But I fear this open market of aluminum yo-yos will be dwindling down and only the strong and established will be holding there own. More info will be available on the newest Yo-Yo Radio Podcast.
Also BIG congrats to Andre and Devon on their engagement!

it dosent look exactly like an 888 but you can tell it was deffinantly…..influenced i guess?
There where mad rumors spreading around nats about this. Who knows
It reminds me more of 401k…if we are talking about similarity
old news
Got this prototype today and imho it is not very much influenced by the 888 shape-wise. To me, it seems like a Hitman with xcon-like flattened rings.
Oh, by the way: It plays awesome and is wobble-free. Definately enjoying this thing =)
look very much like a 401k to me. first impression.
meh… I don’t like the lazer engravings…
any specs?
i heard about the axiom before. i played it. it plays SICCCKK if you dont want one, go jump in a hole
looks like an 888? the 888 looks like a hitman
Thats friggin hot.
I might buy that if it has o-rings. I’m sick of paying alot for a metal yo-yo then having to change the friction stickers every couple of months.
Blegh, I tried it, I HATED it. It played so hollow. The shape was generic, it was very hollow feeling. It felt sorta like a nm4 without the plastic, which actually made the NM4 good. yoyojam needs to work a ton on this yoyo before it is released. It feels so mass produced.
That is the ugliest thing I’ve seen in months.
I am interested in price. A 40-50 metal yoyo that can take silicone or be responsive has a spot in the market not filled by others right now. But with those graphics, only the blind will buy it.
J
If it’s 50 bucks, which it won’t, it seems like it’d be worth it.
But at the current price of plastic/metal yyj’s being 40 i highly doubt that it will be 50. I have no experience with this yo, but it seems that i generally have the same opinions as andrewbergen when it comes to yoyo reviews. If i end up getting one, i’ll be sure to write a full review.
When will they be hitting stores?
Paper pogs on a metal?
“That is the ugliest thing I’ve seen in months.”
Agreed, and there are MIRROR pogs so you can look into them and match your yoyo. Not there first thing that came to mind when i saw mirrors on a yoyo.
Plays alright though, real solid/heavy/blanaced. not my cup otea.
sorry yyj
Interesting contrast between Andrews,’ Hollow feeling yoyo’ comment and Paul Escolars’ ‘Real solid, heavy, balanced’ comment. Very interesting contrast. And Higbys’ comment about,’ Paper pogs on a metal’? > Well John; since Most metal yoyos don’t even have pogs; what is the relevance of the question? Hitman??? you statement about the 40 something price range of current Yoyojam yoyos…………. Since most metals average around 80/90 bucks or more; even; why would you use Yoyojams hybrid price as some kind of yardstick that would/should/could constitute identifying their metal yoyo pricepoint? Now Stevo is on an Ugly kick>> first Takeshi’s yoyo is the Ugliest plastic yoyo on Earth; lol… and now this Axiom yoyo is the Ugliest yoyo you have seen in months.. uh ok Unkle. Half the yoyos that come out are some sort of Ugly and every yoer that has a bag full of yoyos has a few Butt Ugly yoyos no doubt. And no doubt the Axiom ‘looks like some other yoyo’; lol… Alot of yoyos look like ’some other yoyo’. Most yoyos that exibit some positive level of functionality have specs that fall within a certain parameter range. I find it interesting how a certain number of haters come out and jump right on an Established Yoyo companys’ first metal entry; when it has barely even come out of the gate; lol.. Funny stuff…………….
I hear this will be a regular priced yoyo too. like a little more than the NM4. The problem with YYJ on the market is that their yoyos wont be the same quality as smaller companies like Werrd, Dif-E-yo, clyw, ect, ect. *Yoyofactory is an exception, they can make great yoyos on a large scale* But YYJ is just getting into the metal market. W/ caps this yoyo plays worse than the actually cheap metal the metal zero. It feels so unsolid, and from what i played for about 5 minutes, if its not under 40$ it wont be getting in my collection. Or YYJ has A TON off work to do!
So are you sayin that it plays like crap with or with out the caps. Cause from what Paul and Dave both said i really want to by one. and i after all the hundreds that i’ve spent on plastic yo-yojams i might spend a few dollars more on this.
I like the shape. But hate the color and the lazer grafiks.
All I can say at th end of this it took you long enough yoyojam. = )
But change the graficks. That’s one damm ugly yo-yo X (
Mo:
I would like to point out that I’ve been saying YYJ stuff is ugly for a loooong time, and it’s completely irrespective to the materials being used. It also has absolutely nothing to do with play.
I haven’t thrown one, so I can’t comment on the viability, design, or anything else. I’ve only looked at one, and my first response was “That’s really ugly”.
I will say that from an engineering standpoint, I wonder if the sidecaps are a good idea. It’s one more thing that needs to be centered, balanced, hold tolerances, etc. I understand they are trying to go with a branding thing by putting caps on all their yo-yos, but with standard manufacturing tolerances they are going to have a lot of rattling caps, or artificial wobble from caps that are too tight or unevenly weighted.
Just sayin’.
Steve… for the record; I don’t care for sidecaps>>>>> period. On any yoyo. As you mentioned; sidecaps may help identify a yoyo(obviously not a quote from your text); but personally; the first thing I do when I get a yoyo with sidecaps; is take the sidecaps off. Just seems to me some folks are jumping on this yoyo before it has even been released. As good as Andrew Bergen is at yoing; I think his statement about Yoyojam needs to do alot more work on the Axiom before they release it; is kinda of exaggerated. There are more than a few players on the Team Yoyojam that also are quite adept at yoyo play and it is not going to be released without a pretty fair amount of testing. Realize that the yoyo Joe Mitchell snapped pics of; is from the first Proto test batch that has been sent to team players for evaluation. I just don’t see using Yoyojam for target practice just because Dale wants to release a ‘Metal yoyo’. I am not trying to promote or demote the yoyo. I don’t even have one and have yet to even touch one. It will be interesting when the yoyo is actually released …………………. if it a Player; than Bergy is gonna have more ‘to eat than Chocolate’ lol… Just sayin’.
^hahaha
But seriously, its bad. it feels so hollow. If it was 40$ now then it would be great. but it doesnt hold a candle to any other high end metal
I like the mirrors.
Handy when getting ready for a date or if someone wants to ‘powder’ their nose.
More seriously they look neat.
I got one of these handed to me last weekend…to say the least I was not impressed. Its like they took the 888 removed the rim weight added another five grams where the bearing sits on the yoyo…It plays like a rock on a string BUT! it doesn’t wobble =)
I got to throw one around for a bit during toy fair weekend. It’s not that there is anything really “bad” about it (no noticeable vibe, wobble ect.). but it got a resounding “meh” from everyone that played it (that I talked to anyway). There’s not a lot to either love or hate here in terms of play, make up your own mind about the graphics. I think the success of this one is going to come down to price.
So Duncan is killing it with the metal FH @ $40?
The graphics seriously need some help but other than that… I’m praying that it plays better than it looks.
Hopefully it’s gonna take a chunk outta my wallet too.
lol NOT gonna take a chunk out of my wallet
damn is there something special with that yoyo i prefer if they do it as 888 it’s nicer
duh i prefer the new yoyo of duncan the hayabusa more than that i think there s nothing special with that yoyo. hahahaha
hey johny give me a call its freddy from the factory FreddySalinas@comcast.net
I THINK THE AXIOM YOYO IS VERY HOT AND IT PLAY GOOD TO AND THE LASER ENGRAVING IS THE BEST
What are you guys thinking this looks NOTHING like the 888. Nothing.
