All quiet on the Duncan front?

Not quite. This is the new Off String yo-yo. No due date on release but it sounds like this will be one of the last generations before production. At 2005 Worlds Duncan President Jason Sowey saw a lack of Duncan’s used in off string play. Thus, 2 1/2 years later, here it is!

Its a more rounded wing and body based off of the FHZ (not like the Flying Panda’s body based off of the FH2). Hopefully that means FHZ caps will be a part of this model. The wings are made of a harder less grippy rubber that is really nice for bounces and grinds.

The inside is different then other Duncan models. This yo-yo has 3 small holes around the bearing similar to the Yo-Yo Jam Aquarius. Also the gap on this yo-yo is smaller for better off string response.
Now the question arises, is this a good move? I played with this yo-yo for a wile and i was very impressed with the playability, feel and performance. But is producing such a niche yo-yo on a mass production level going to fly? I would hope that spacers that will widen the gap and friction sticker (which will be included) will make this just as good for 1 and 5A as the Panda is (was?)
On a completely different tangent… Check out the new Takeshi FHZ. Purple Enyo and special edition Takeshi caps. These will be exclusively available on Duncan’s website

it looks good, and i deff. think its a step up.
i cant wait to throw one.
This looks pretty snazzy. Hopefully they come in more vibrant colors then the small choices with the panda. A transition Panda would be pretty dope. I’m hoping its as versatile as the panda or I’m going to be a little sad.
i couldn’t give a crap about the offstring yo-yo.
i want an officially sanctioned takeshi mod.
The name of this yo-yo in japanese translates to something around the lines of Flying Falcon. I live in St. Louis, where we have regular Moyo yo-yo club meets every saturday, and the head of the club received one of these prototypes for our 2 year anniversary, which will be Feb. 16th (come on out, anybody! XD), and basically he’s giving it away as a prize for freestyles anybody can compete in any division. He receieved it from Duncan, the event is being sponsored by Yoyojam and Duncan so far…
It’s really neat! The owner already got the yo-yo but won’t show us it, he says it’s MIP and it’s staying that way until somebody wins it.
Looks neat, and being a 4A player I’m definitely going to look into one of these!
Hope you don’t mind me posting on the other boards but I’m super excited for this one. Looks really fun.
best parts are that it comes in clear for higby to have at it with the paints and that it managed to beat the makoto numagami signature yoyo to the market. art takes time.
why is it so epic that it beat makotos yoyo?
i’m not going with epic nature on the timeline of this yoyo. i was just making an illustration that makoto is well well well well overdue for a signature release.
i just got the impression that seth was poking fun at this yoyo not coming out months after worlds ‘05.
curses to subtext not coming through over the interwebs. i will stop trying to be funny and go back to doing whatever it was i was doing before that.
love you all.
word up. last makoto proto i threw was shitty as all get out, and is he even yoyoing anymore?
the proto duncan os yoyo doesn’t really bounce, hope the production run does…. and the proto uses cut down viper shells, duncan won’t be using it rite? and are the grooves for the shell hand cut? the proto look just like a viper freehand.
ooooomg…….looks like fun!
this yoyo is based on the same idea as mods that choolin and takeshi have done but, the runner is a legit overmould and not a snap on viper cut shell.
makoto is definitely still yoyoing.
i think what jayson played with was the proof of concept and not a proto.
I like the shape it look kind of like a modified H shape to me. What is the diameter?
oh my… an offstring 888. I think that I’ve died and gone to heaven. I love love love the shape… and I’ve always hated the panda.
awww. only thing i liked about the panda was the response. less grippysounds super nice though
Hmm, doesn’t look too oversized. It looks like it will accept a hubstack kit. Looks interesting. It would be fun to finally play os with hubcaps.
Sorry, did I just say hubcaps? I need to go to bed.
Wow, so, the yoyo at moyo came into my possesion, and I proudly own one of these prototypes now. I absolutely love this thing, and it plays so damn nice for 4A, and hella fun for 1A as well. Mine came with blank white FHZ caps too. I don’t use em, because if the yoyo hits the ground they pop right out. THough, this thing is smooth on the string and plays great! Certainly my choice for 4A, I’ll be buying another one, and a higby one when they get on the market. A+ for Duncan, very nice.
