Worlds was awesome…or so I hear.

So another year has come and gone and once again several hundred (rumored to be over seven hundred people in fact) flew from all parts of the world to Orlando, Florida’s Rosen Plaza Hotel to compete, participate, or just take in the yo-yo goodness of the Annual World Yo-Yo Contest. People were busy packing and preparing, selling off their prized collection of yo-yo’s no longer available by retail so that they may purchase the new and exciting proto’s, and special edition yo-yo’s to be released at the contest, or so that they could eat when they got there. The weeks leading up to the contest had the internet boards in a flurry with shout outs, who’s who, and OMGz i can’t wait to see Yukki, Mickey, and Steve Brown’s crazy mystery freestyle.
Then the time came. People began flying from Japan, Austrailia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Germany, and all throughout the USA and crammed into the Plaza for the highlight of their yo-yo year. People found out who’s who in person, the shout outs changed to fun get togethers with friends who are rarely seen, and I’m fairly sure none of the OMGz were disappointed with Yukki, Micky, Steve, and all the other world class players who graced the stage. But now its over and like many others whom I’m sure have similar circumstances to my own, I had to take as much in from the live feed from my home in eastern Canada as I could and hope that maybe next year I can partake. The ranting about the fun had at the contest I’m sure will continue for quite some time, as it always does, and with the NYC International open just days away I’m sure it won’t help the situation. Many yoers seem to get down around these times because “they have school,” or “dad won’t let me go,” or some other reason or another. Mine is because I’m flat broke. Bummer. But just because other people get to enjoy it doesn’t mean it should get you down. I had a blast Sunday night chatting with some crew in the YoYoing.com chat and watching the live feed together. And it was so nice to see everyone having so much fun and the excitement that everyone felt as the winners were announced. If anything it should make you happy and hopefully. Hope that one day you will be able to go to this great contest and yo-yo mecca known as the World Yo-Yo Contest, and you might not win, you might not even compete, but you will have the joy that you shared something you love with kindred souls, and heck, you might even not get anything stolen.
So you folks who enjoyed or longed for worlds from your computer chairs as I did…any thoughts?
