Born Chaotic

In between building a global clothing line, being one of the top 3A players in the world and one of the nicest guys i know, Mr. Yath has been busy coming up with some sick new yo-yos and parts for you…

The purple in the Grape Milk is so damn vivid!

But the real treat are the new Crucial Bearing, and believe me, once you start playing with then, they’ll become crucial.

Grooved. Hell yes! Large and Duncan sizes are going to be available. I received a hand grooved medium bearing from S-Kon a few years ago at worlds and fell in love!

Keep a look out for these most online retailers.

New Peak run!

Sick new colorway! can’t wait to try and get my hands on one of these. The Peaks are my 2nd favorite yo-yo, second only to the Fluchs.

The colorway is very symbolic. Chris had this to say about it:
www.28stories.com it’s a book about the AIDS pandemic in Africa. 1 story
for each million people who have AIDS in Africa…it’s very scary about how
out of control it is there.”

It’s great to see companies taking a step and raising awareness of something we should all know more about.

Paul Wallage (gsimian) sent me an email demanding that I blog about his revamped site.  You can buy string directly from him now though paypal.

I finally got tired of typing in blog.yoyo2.com/bl into my browser and decided to move the yoyo2 blog back to the main domain. I have also added another board. it is a bit more public. But should offer the same amount of fun. If you have registered with this blog to comment or anything – you will have a board membership.

So go to it!

Also – we need a theme header image. If anyone has one that would be awesome – send them to me harper@yoyo2.com. Thanks!

Fuck Yomega.

So, if you haven’t read the web boards lately… take a minute or 2 to read this post by Steve Brown.

Now, take another minute to read good ol’ Alan Amoral’s (president and CEO of Yomega) response to what happened at Worlds.

Also check out the comments on Schalicto’s yoyo2 Worlds post.

Now, heres what I think…

First, who the hell does Alan think he is talking down to his customers like that? Granted the yo-yo community makes up a small segment of their total sales, but they are obviously making yo-yos geared to us (Crossfire, Lancer, Blazer and Hotspot*). As we all know, of the yo-yos listed, the ones that have actually been released were garbage. Maybe Alan is taking his aggression out on us because were to picky about the shit he’s been putting out?

Second, get some damn tack to go with your fancy words you prick (look it up HERE). If you find so many problems with the current World Yo-Yo Contest, why didn’t you try to do more with your “World” contest? Always having in Las Vegas? Giving up on it after a few years? Greg might not have all the right ideas, but at least he’s got the balls to stick to his guns. You want to try and change the system Mr. Yomega? Help! Don’t hurt whats going on.

Third, Who do you think you are calling people that agree with Steve, “Steve Brown-nosers”? That was MY IDEA!

SO Alan, and Yomega associates, please feel free to leave any comments you’d like here on the blog. And if you have anything else official to say, I’d be happy to post it here for all these knuckle-dragging neanderthals to read. I know this might not be the classiest response to you guys, but I’m just stooping to your level;)

O and one more thing, Get BENT (look it up)

* I know it’s the Hotshot, but Hotspot is such a better name!

So another year has come and gone and once again several hundred (rumored to be over seven hundred people in fact) flew from all parts of the world to Orlando, Florida’s Rosen Plaza Hotel to compete, participate, or just take in the yo-yo goodness of the Annual World Yo-Yo Contest. People were busy packing and preparing, selling off their prized collection of yo-yo’s no longer available by retail so that they may purchase the new and exciting proto’s, and special edition yo-yo’s to be released at the contest, or so that they could eat when they got there. The weeks leading up to the contest had the internet boards in a flurry with shout outs, who’s who, and OMGz i can’t wait to see Yukki, Mickey, and Steve Brown’s crazy mystery freestyle.

Then the time came. People began flying from Japan, Austrailia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Germany, and all throughout the USA and crammed into the Plaza for the highlight of their yo-yo year. People found out who’s who in person, the shout outs changed to fun get togethers with friends who are rarely seen, and I’m fairly sure none of the OMGz were disappointed with Yukki, Micky, Steve, and all the other world class players who graced the stage. But now its over and like many others whom I’m sure have similar circumstances to my own, I had to take as much in from the live feed from my home in eastern Canada as I could and hope that maybe next year I can partake. My photo album, located at www.floor42online.com, has more than 300 pictures from the 2007 World Yo-Yo Contest.  Be sure to check it out.  Comments are open and active so please leave a comment to help me identify the people in the pictures because I can’t even remember myself most of the time.

Day 1 (Includes pictures of lots of people meeting each other again).

Day 2 (Includes pictures of lots and lots of people and at least a hundred pictures by Boyd Seth on a rampage).

Day 3 (More rocking and rolling pictures including some great shots of the 5A finals).

Day 4 (I got a little tired of taking pictures but this set includes great pictures of the finalists for the mod contest).

If I decide to take more pictures tomorrow I’ll let you know.

Look at that yo-yo for a second.  NO!  DON’T LOOK AT IT!!!  You don’t deserve it yet!  Close your eyes, process what you saw and now look back.  This is the Nostalgia by Shinobu Konmoto and it was his entry for the Mod Contest this year at worlds.

What you are seeing is a yo-yo with an axle that is completely independent of the rims.  Each spoke is stainless steel and fashioned in place with a brass rivet (Probably not a rivet, but I don’t know what to call them).

You might ask yourself, where would he get brass rivets small enough to do the job…. well he couldn’t, so he made them.

You’ve determined by now that it’s like the wheel of a bicycle.  Bikes use that system because it gives a skilled person doing bike repair tremendous flexibility and adjustability.

Of everything that I have seen at the World Yo-Yo Contest this year, this was the most mind-blowing (Even more mind-blowing than Boyd Seth… ish).  You might be asking how it plays and let me assure you that it plays like the most perfect of perfect.

Katelyn Anton is getting a signature series Pyro.

Scuba Steve is the coolest guy ever unless he forgets his ID and the waiter refuses to serve him booze.

Scuba Steve is the coolest guy ever unless he has booze and you can’t get any.

Finals are not done yet, but Yuuki Spencer “killed it” (quoted Joey Fleshman).

Eiji is a power house.

Daniloo Packer got on Duncan Crew… but I don’t know who he is.

Alex Beringuel is now sponsored by Caribou Lodge Yo-Yo Works.

Sterling Quinn is on Yo-Yo Jam and will belligerently tell you that No, he doesn’t want to buy a yo-yo.

The Save Deth DVD is selling well.

Yomega did not sponsor the World Yo-Yo Contest but instead rented a suite and tried to sell yo-yos in the suite.  Greg got super pissed and threatened to disqualify anyone sponsored by yomega, wore yomega or used yomega.  I hope that he would never follow through with such a threat.  I think there was also some hubub involving yomega with the Autism freestyles… but I don’t have the skinny on that.
