A move in the right direction

Kiya over at Anti-Yo, and one of the organized for Bay Area Classic, has just announced the The Pro Invitational Meltdown!
You might be asking, why? Here’s what Kiya had to say…
There are a few reasons why i wanted to do the PIM just in case anybody is wondering….
I feel like as though every little contest around the world, whether it be skateboarding, BMX riding, eating contests, text messaging championships, or video game contests have cash prizes for the pros that make it to the top. Why do we never offer our professionally sponsored players cash prizes? How is the yoyo world any less of a skill than professional video game players or pro skaters?
We’re not, which is where THE PRO INVITATIONAL MELTDOWN comes into play.
Another nugget of contest wisdom for Kiya regarding outdoor contests can be found in a post he made a month ago.
Some good things to think about. I’m glad to see different outlooks on what a yo-yo contest can be.

I think the format is lame, the judging isnt explained t all and the announcement so close to the contest makes it appear like an afterthought.
Hope Im wrong.
I dont see much value for the sponsors either (apart from the fact 1 team member will be happy).
I guess it sounds lame if you don’t like having fun and are into to bitching and moaning.
watching the worlds best players compete in styles they dont excell in is fun?
this encourages players to excel in all styles, similar to the combined division at worlds. think of kentaro, ryan lai, or shane karan: is there anything that they don’t excel at?
…actually, none of those three are going. but yoshi mikamoto is. and we all know what a force of nature yoshi is.
anyways.
i think it’s a pretty awesome event. the only things that i don’t really like are the snubbing of indie players, and the name. not that the name’s bad - just that i would expect more of kiya. like “the ultimate pro badonkadonk battle”
maybe that would give the wrong impression.
