Umm… An aluminum looping yo-yo? Great, not only is it at least 3 times more then the other looping yo-yos, but that is going to HURT LIKE HELL when it hits you.
More over, on X-YO’s site it states “Ixion’s wheel optimized for loop[ing] trick[s]“. By the looks of the shape thats going to be poor at looping due to the aerodynamics of the shape. Also, there is a lot of rim weight which will cause the yo-yo to flop to the side while looping. Steve, correct me if I’m wrong on this.
pure and simple, $140 for a pair of looping yo-yos that look like they’ll loop worse then a $20-30 pair. Bummer.
Duncan Toys just announced the formation of Duncan Crew Hungary.
Yes, Hungary.
Small country, small market. Is this going to signal a serious push by Duncan to start capturing the international market, or another in a long list of failed launches such as New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway?
Here’s hoping they are able to get the distribution they need and push it right. Although, Yo-Yo Factory and Russell seem to be doing just fine in continuously stomping any brand that tries to leave the United States.
Keep your eyes on this one.
New response pads from Yo-Yo Guy.com!. These have been a long time coming. Back when they were testing both of their great Silicone Stickers, they were also testing these. I had the opportunity to test both styles, and really fell in love with the Marsh pads. These are a textured silicone, similar to the Black Kentaro Pads.
First. Don’t worry. The yoyo2.com forum will back soon enough. Harper is getting over a bad cold and up to his neck in work.
Now, for new releases:
Yo-Yo Factory: Grind Machine2

Has dropped at most online stores, and is selling out fast. A wider-profile version of the G5 with a slicker-than-snot coating.
Throw Down: Luchador

We haven’t posted much about this yo-yo…mainly because there hasn’t been much information about it. What struck me about this yo-yo was the concept of the shape. When I was handed an early proto of this yo-yo to play I was asked, “What would you change”. After playing with it a bit about the only thing I didn’t dig was the shape.
![]()
As you can see. The shape consists of very straight lines. And some gnarly edges. But when I commented on the shape, Nate simply said, “No way. That’s what I designed the yo-yo around!” Hells YES. I am a firm believer in designers making do yo-yos with their aesthetics in mind, not something that “everyone will hype and love and BUY”. The logo and laser engraving is very cool. Looking forward to playing more with this one. Look for this one at most of the online stores.
Roo-Yo: Kaizen

Roo-Yo has always been one for trying new things. Their SV series had small dimples in it, similar to a golf ball. The newest Roo-Yo is only available at Yo-Yo Nation. The same neat o-ring hump response… or S.I.D.R.O.M. response has a nice smooth play. Italian metal rarely disappoints.
For full specs and pics of these new yo-yos, check out this nifty feature at Yo-Yo Nation.
Paul Yath just dropped these pics of the new silicone o-rings that will be coming in the Milk by Born Crucial later this month.
Also, Yo-Yo Nation has the new Ghost Pads in both Medium and Large.
Yomega has released an image of their first metal yo-yo since the Metallic Missle, the Blazer.
At first glance, it appears to be just another metal butterfly that looks like a Tigershark or Freehand Zero. Nothing special.
A closer look yields a series of circular cavities, extending radially from the axle. What’s going in them? I smell patent infringement, but that’s assuming that Duncan a) knows what patents it has, b) has actually read them, and c) cares enough to do something about it.
Yomega’s track record of releasing new yo-yos over the past few years can generously be described as “triumphant mistakes”. Will this one be any better?
We’ll find out when it’s released…
*UPDATE* Price is going to be $79.95.
Joe Mitchell over at Yo-Yo Radio sent me this picture of a VERY odd looking yo-yo. According to Joe, this is a prototype of a new Duncan Yo-Yo specially designed for the Sukeban Deka Film that Taka was the yo-yo stunt coordinator. Its based off of a Freehand Zero body, but has a brass axle in it. Joe says a bearing kit can be placed in it though. This yo-yo will be only sold in Japan with the DVD on its release in late march. This yo-yo came right from the Duncan HQ, and there are no plans for a US release. So get one of your friends in Japan to get you one.
This yo-yo will be given away on Yo-Yo Radio’s 100th episode.
